Sometimes one just could not figure it out that what exactly he/she is going through. Sometimes it is just more than feeling down. If you have decided to take any antidepressants then before taking it do check for the side effects. First consult with the physician as he will be deciding the medication according to the condition. Whatever ever antidepressants your physician will choose they all are effective.
As mentioned above that the antidepressant is effective enough to cure the depression. The only thing that needs to be followed is that the medication should be taken as prescribed by the physician. It is the job of the physician that he makes sure that if the medication is not working or suiting the patient then change the medication.
The signs and symptoms of the patient help in deciding whether the medication is working or not. The main motive of the medication should be to cure the depression. The patient and the doctor should communicate with each other. The doctor should ask that is the medication is working or not and on the other hand the patient should also tell the doctor how he is feeling after taking the medication.
Different psychotherapies are designed to cure the depression. Interpersonal psychotherapy and Cognitive-behavioral therapy are proved clinically more effective and have identical effects as antidepressants. These therapies try to touch the reason of the depression. Before opting for any psychotherapy you should take every minute details of the psychotherapy.
ECT is known as Electroconvulsive Therapy and most popularly known as electroshock. The declining effect cannot be controlled by the ECT and when the patient is over with the ECT treatment the patient is prescribed with the antidepressants. According to the physicians the patient should be given ECT at least one time in the month to make sure that the depression does not occur again. It is recommended for those patients who have chronic depression and having severe medical complications. The ECT is considered most effective as it shows its effects within two to three weeks.
If the patients have a recurrence of depression at least two to three times then there are major chances of occurring again. In this case the patient might have to take the antidepressants for the rest of his life. In the situation where the depression is restrained the patient should continue the dosage of the antidepressant at least to a maximum of twelve months. If it is not stopped and the patient experiences another episode of depression the prescription might have to be continued for as long as two years.
If a patient is suffering from depression then there is no use of finding the cause, it is better that the appropriate medication should be given to the patient as soon as possible. Depression should not be taken lightly and if not cured within time could be dangerous for the sufferer. Sometimes we don’t tend to give much importance and the condition keeps on worsening. It does not occur instantly and it grows with the passage of time. It can also be a result of a breakdown with your loved one, could be because of a divorce, or could be some family problem.
